The Horses At Lazy M Ranch II / Caroline. Alberta

Gallery  /  Current Painting

Oil on Canvas

18” x  36”

This is a second painting of the three horses at the Lazy M Ranch.  Intriguing in the way the horses positioned themselves in the pasture.

Homage to Franz Marc and his blue horse painting, as well as homage to the Fauvism movement in Paris, France, around 1905 when the use of arbitrary colour became popular among some of the more forward-thinking artists of the day.  The term "Fauvism" referred to “wild beasts”.  The Fauvists rejected the softly coloured and publicly favoured works of the Impressionists and began to use brash, bold (and violent?) colour to describe emotion.
