June The 9th (Snow!) / The Vanishing Canadian
Gallery / Current Painting
Acrylic on Canvas
48” x 48”
This painting is one of the paintings in the “The Vanishing Canadian” train series. The “vanishing Canadian” refers to ViaRail’s unpopular cancellation of a major section of their passenger railway route in western Canada. Note the diminutive red railway cars weaving their way through the mountainous landscape. The word “snow” in the title refers to the rather surprising fact that it snowed on that date in June when the artist was out in the wilderness painting a smaller study for her studio work. However, the fact that snow can happen in any one of the four seasons in Canada is never much of a shock to a Canuck!
Below is the art critique that appeared in The Edmonton Journal for the Vanishing Canadian exhibition.
