Athabasca Glacier/Columbia Icefield, Alberta

Gallery  /  Current Painting

Acrylic on Canvas

48” x  48”

This is a painting of the magnificent glacier situated close to the town of Jasper in Alberta. A small group of artists rode the mammoth vehicle that carries tourists on to the glacier, where we carefully and fearfully traversed its dangerous surface with an expert guide showing the way. The one-week trip was facilitated by Brewster Transportation, where they hosted us as Artists in Residence close to the Columbia Icefield.

Here are the four artists, Kathy Lakeman and Frances Ekvall in the front row, and Laurie Cormack in back, with our guide, on Athabasca Glacier, Columbia Icefield. The yellow suits were provided to all who traverse the glacier, as a safety feature to keep track of us in case of any type of disaster encountered.
